STOP AQUATIC HITCHHIKERS
You can help prevent the transport and introduction of nuisance species. Many boaters don’t realize the impact they can make on a lake when they introduce other species from other lakes into our lakes.
The P.O.A. spends thousands of dollars a year to treat our lakes for exotic invasive plants and weeks. While our efforts go forward, the reintroduction of these species by careless boaters will set us right back where we started or worse.
Here are a few important steps you can take to prevent Aquatic Hitchhikers:
- Remove any visible mud, plants, fish, or animals before transporting equipment.
- Drain water from your boat, live wells, and trailer before transporting.
- Clean and dry anything that comes in contact with water (equipment, clothing, dogs, etc.).
- Never release plants, fish, or animals into a body of water unless they first come out of that body of water.
